Last night was Lapsap’s 1st Anniversary and it was madness! I remember walking back to Palate Palette and saw Sue Ann with a “Welcome home”. That felt really good. No matter how hot and sweaty it was, I had a blast catching up and dancing with everyone. Oh, the 42 Below shots helped too. Oh, no hangover for me though. I actually woke up early. Here are photos to make you feel bad for missing it.

One to start off the night with Jacinta, Hackeem, Ben and girl I don’t really remember the name. It’s Jacinta’s birthday, so I keep pushing the 42 Belows to her.

I love dancing and I am always surfing YouTube for the slickest dance moves. Ever so often I get impressed with some of the stuff these kids are doing and when I compare to our local dancers, I had to make myself stop. Where are our skills? I know we got the talent, I know it, but why haven’t I seen it yet and I don’t wanna hear that we got some foreigners teaching us Malaysians how to dance. Perservere to show and prove.

I was inspired so much after looking at this.

Then I found someone freestyling to the same song by Usher called ‘This Ain’t Sex’ too, which is by the way, one of my favourite jams at the moment, right next to Chris Brown’s ‘Take U Down’. FYI, of course.

I am actually looking for a good Hip Hop/R&B dance class to join. Anyone know of any? Anything near Mid-Valley or Bangsar, especially?

This has also inspired me for something else. Wait for it.

When we first came up with the idea of doing a book project to raise funds for the Myanmar Cyclone Relief we had no idea it would grow into something this big and important.

This book project was aimed at empowering the Myanmar kids from the Kachin community living in Malaysia. When asked how they could help their own people after the cyclone they replied helplessly “Just Pray…” which was a great answer, as prayer is very powerful, but we wanted them to realize they were capable of a lot more if they put their minds to it. So the idea for the book project came about and the kids have been excited beyond words. Even more exciting for them is the beach trip we promised them if they could raise the target amount.

The kids were asked to write about why they left Myanmar, what their hopes and dreams were for their country and for themselves. They were asked to draw their idea of a new and improved Myanmar. Most of the stories were translated into English while some managed to write in English. The kids chose their own English names for their stories.

We were quite disturbed to read stories recounting the hardships and suffering faced by all of them in their homeland. Prior to this we had some inkling of what was going on in Myanmar but somehow coming from these young kids and told with such honesty and courage, we were deeply moved by what they had been through.

Interestingly enough as much as they all encountered such challenges they remain unanimously united in their loyalty and love for their country. They all want to return to their new and developed country one day to serve their own people hence the idea for the title “My Beautiful Myanmar”. This book is not so much about the hard times the kids have gone through instead it is a book of hope for the next generation. It is about getting a chance at a new beginning.

This book project has become much more than just raising funds, more than just empowering these enthusiastic kids, it’s about raising awareness about the injustice that still exists in our world today and with this awareness hopefully comes needed change to improve the lives of our brothers and sisters on this planet. When kids have to go hungry for days, trek through dangerous jungles and hide under beds at the sound of sirens, something just isn’t right.

KIDS SHOULD BE RUNNING IN THE PARK, NOT RUNNING FOR THEIR LIVES…
